Reader recommendation: The Glass Room

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

of

The Glass Room, a finalist for the 2009 Man Booker Prize, is by Simon Mawer. It deals with a family who live in the Glass House in a city in Czechoslovakia from the 1920s into the 1930s.  One gets a feel of the future and the promise of an independent Czechoslovakia which disappears as the Nazis come to power. It's a wonderful and moving story of the 1920s and 1930s in Europe.
