1. "The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency" series, by Alexander McCall Smith

The award for "most charming" detective books would perhaps go to "The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency" series, which details the episodes of Precious Ramotswe, Botswana’s only female private investigator. The whodunit aspect of this series may lack the sizzle of some edgier ones, but the real star of “Ladies” is the colorful cast of characters and the vivid descriptions of life in Mma Ramotswe's beloved Botswana.
