2. "Inspector Montalbano" series, by Andrea Camilleri

This series of internationally popular novels translated from the Italian tells of the adventures of Inspector Salvo Montalbano of Sicily, a cynical yet classy detective who will stop at nothing to defeat the corrupt and powerful and to solve his case. Montalbano is also an appreciative consumer of Sicilian cuisine and descriptions of his meals are among the delights of the series.
