Italian author Valerio Massimo Manfredi fuses history and fiction in his version of "The Ides of March" by telling the story of Caesar's assassination as a tale of suspense in which a friend of Caesar's – a centurion named Publius Sextius – speeds to Rome, hoping to reach Caesar in time to save him.
