Carlos Slim tops Forbes rich list (again): Top five emerging market billionaires

Carlos Slim retained the top spot on the Forbes rich list for the second year in a row. Of the 11 richest men in the world, here are the top five who come from emerging economies in Latin America and Asia.

The world's ninth richest man had a lousy year. As Mukesh Ambani watched his fortune slip from $28.7 billion to $27 billion over the year, he also saw himself drop five spots on the Forbes rich list and is no longer the wealthiest Indian (losing that title to Lakshmi Mittal). Still, it's hard to feel sorry for the 53-year-old chairman of Mumbai-based Reliance Industries, an oil and gas conglomerate.

He's not acting too downcast, either. He and his wife are known to host parties at their recently completed 27-story "sky palace," according to Forbes. The $1 billion home includes a health club, gym, dance studio, a ballroom, at least one swimming pool, three helipads, and a 50-seater cinema.
