While out on $4.5 million bail, Roman Polanski spent 10 months confined to his Swiss chalet, as officials decided whether to extradite him to the US, where he had plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in 1978.

During his house arrest, he wore an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and was not allowed to leave his estate. His neighbors included Sir Sean Connery, Sir Roger Moore, and model Elle Macpherson. The Swiss justice ministry announced on July 12, 2010, that Polanski would not be extradited to the US, saying the US had not provided confidential testimony they had requested from his sentencing in California.
