Over the hedge

Part-owner of part of a dog.

My dog, Laddie, and I take a daily 2-1/2 mile walk in my neighborhood. Laddie has become especially fond of a 5-year-old boy, Harry, who lives down the street. Harry runs to pat the dog while Laddie wags his tail vigorously in response. Since Harry doesn't own a dog, it occurred to me that if his mom approved, I would tell Harry that he could be part-owner of Laddie. His mother said that was fine, and Harry seemed pleased with this plan. However, not many weeks later, Harry very seriously asked me if he could own the front part of Laddie. I agreed and have been chuckling ever since over our new arrangement.
