In a Hard Wind

A poem.

October 14, 2011

In a Hard Wind A pheasant sprints
across the highway
to a gravel road
then into a cornfield
ready to be picked
in yellow ocher rows –
the bird's feathered head
wild as a teenager's
hair hurrying home.
