Review: 'Frozen River'

Affecting drama about a mother who smuggles illegal immigrants from Canada to the US has startlingly good acting.

By Peter Rainer / August 2, 2008

In writer-director Courtney Hunt's uneven but affecting "Frozen River," Melissa Leo is startlingly good as Ray Eddy, a smuggler of illegal immigrants from Canada into upstate New York. You feel like you're watching a life, not a performance. Grade: B+ (Rated R for some language.)
