Horizon highlights – Low-tech/high-tech edition

Our regular roundup of sci-tech stories from across the Web includes: What to do if you drop your cellphone in the toilet, how to self-publish your own book, and is MySpace cool anymore? Let’s kick it off:

Basics: Low-tech fixes for high-tech problems
"Cellphone in the Toilet: It could happen to anyone: you dropped your cellphone in the toilet. Take the battery out immediately, to prevent electrical short circuits from frying your phone’s fragile internals. Then, wipe the phone gently with a towel, and shove it into a jar full of uncooked rice." [via NYTimes]

Culture: Has MySpace lost its cool?
"I'm not entirely sure that Chis DeWolfe enjoyed our encounter at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The affable American, co-founder and chief executive of MySpace, was jet-lagged, having stepped off a flight from Los Angeles that morning into a punishing schedule of interviews and the launch of a new mobile offering. Then I arrived to interview him for radio – and to point a video camera at him for this blog:" [via BBC News]

25 things: The value in Facebook's new craze
"Anyone who's even dabbled in social networking in the past few weeks is surely familiar with the Web's latest phenomenon. It's a chain letter for the Facebook set called '25 Random Things About Me,' in which participants assemble a list containing exactly that, and post it online, often with a request that 25 other friends return the favor." Podcast: "The Real Deal" on self-publishing
"We welcome self-published author David Carnoy to talk about publishing a book yourself using print on demand as well as e-publishing." [via CNET]
