Small seats and close quarters: AirTran advertisements are seen in the pockets of their seat-back tray tables. Some airlines now offer seats with more legroom for a fee and some are charging overweight passengers for two seats if they cannot fit into one. For United Airlines, that means if a passenger cannot close the arm rest or cannot fasten the seat belt with an extension, he or she may be charged for a second seat. The policy is for the comfort and well-being of all guests on board, according to United, and is partly in response to 700 complaints received from people who did not have a comfortable flight because the person next to them infringed on their seat.
