2. Thomas Jefferson ($212 million)

While he ended his life in debt, Thomas Jefferson at his peak was one of the richest presidents ever. The inheritor of family wealth, Jefferson owned 5,000 acres of land and 200 slaves. His marriage to the wealthy young widow Martha Wayles Skelton more than doubled his holdings in land and slaves.
