The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Coolidge, Ariz., is shown March, 24, 2000. The nation's oldest archaeological reserve and one of its oldest national monuments, the Casa Grande Ruins, is about to get a new neighbor: a Wal-Mart superstore. The community has been growing fast but has very reasonable housing prices.

Unlike many of the cities in the most affordable category, this small central Arizona city has been growing by leaps and bounds. Its population is up more than 40 percent since 2000. It is home to the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, America’s first archeological reserve, whose centerpiece is a four-story structure that’s at least 700 years old. A four-bedroom home costs under $70,000.
