Relatively speaking, Spokane's economy is not doing badly. Unemployment last November was 8.4 percent, less than the state and national averages. Its foreclosure rate, though second-highest among the Top 10 fast-rising metros, remains at a low 0.9 percent. But that rate rose 84 percent last year.
