Reader recommendation: The Great Disruption

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

By Sylvia Whitcher, Los Altos, Calif. / August 17, 2012

I have been reading The Great Disruption by Paul Gilding who theorizes that the future will change dramatically when we run out of food and material. His subtitle, “The End of Shopping,” really grabbed my attention. He reviews the scientific evidence of global warming in the first half of his book while in the second he tells what we can do to mitigate or alleviate it. I found this book to be very disturbing, but a “must-read.”
