American Prometheus, by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, is a gripping and meticulously researched biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who brought the world into the Atomic Age and whose subsequent regret about creating nuclear weapons led to his downfall amid the domestic hysteria that accompanied the cold war.
