Reader recommendation: Storms of My Grandchildren

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

By Sylvia Whitcher, Los Altos, Calif. / May 19, 2011

My grandchildren are the light of my life, but reading Storms of My Grandchildren by James Hansen left me wondering about what kind of world we will be leaving them. Hansen’s book provides scientific proof of what he calls “forcings,” the things that tip the balance in changing the global climate. Despite my lack of a background in science, I found Hansen’s descriptions clear and understandable. He writes with a great sense of urgency. I think this book is essential reading for everyone on our planet.
