Reader recommendation: Opening the Doors

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

By

I read Opening The Doors by B. J. Hollars, a very well researched, unbiased look back at the desegregation of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1964. Hollars's account impresses upon me the resilience and restraint of the African American community as it strove non violently for the equality of which it had been deprived.
