3. 'Who Owns the Future?,' by Jaron Lanier
"You Are Not A Gadget" author Lanier examines new technology, asserting that some of it has hurt our economy. The author suggests ways that the middle class could be helped if average Internet users were offered micropayments for some of their activities online. "I thought it was going to be way too tech-y for a general audience, but it's really not," Nelson says of the book. "He has a way of writing in this very human way about stuff that's kind of anti-human."
