12 versions that successfully brought Dickens' classic novels to the small and big screens.
2. 'A Tale of Two Cities'
Dickens' epic about the French Revolution, memorably featuring the barrister Sydney Carton who pines for Lucie Manette, was filmed in 1989 for Masterpiece Theater starring James Wilby as Carton. Wilby earned praise for his performance as the complex character Carton, and many remember Kathy Kriegel for her frightening performance as the villainous Madame Defarge.
