For the BBC's most famous detective, a final act

New on DVD: Oscar-winner Helen Mirren's seventh 'Prime Suspect.'

Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act (NR)

With Helen Mirren at the fore, this BBC series enlivened and enriched the mystery genre, setting a precedent for edgy stateside shows such as "The Shield." It also gave us one of the first modern detectives with a crippling array of tragic flaws, from alcoholism to pervasive self-doubt. In the seventh, and final, season, Jane Tennison (Mirren) is closer to the edge than she's ever been before – her father is dying, retirement is only weeks away, and her family life is in tatters. But when a girl goes missing, Tennison must shelve her personal drama. Some things are easier said than done.
