Tubegazing: The Dresden Files

The Sci Fi Channel's new supernatural detective show is like 'Harry Potter' meets 'CSI.'

The Dresden Files (Sci Fi Channel, Sunday Jan. 21, 9 p.m.):

In the first episode of the Sci Fi Channel's "The Dresden Files," Chicago-based Harry Dresden helps police track – and understand – some really icky, supernatural baddies, whose modus operandi is stripping the skin from their victims. Think of the series as "Harry Potter meets CSI." While the two Harrys have a few things in common (first name, peculiar magical talents, knack for attracting trouble, hero of a bestselling book franchise), the show is decidedly gorier and more adult than the British teen series. These unsettling scenes are tough on the eyes, but happily, star Paul Blackthorne is well worth watching, full time. Grade B+
