Sudden Joy

By

Joy wells up
sudden as bird song,
piercing as beauty.
Out of the quiet day
joy bursts like a rocket
for no reason. Or for
some homely thing
that speaks to the heart...
one crimson strawberry
sun-warmed on the tongue,
crystal light from a star dancing
in our yesterdays,
or the beloved at the
bend of the road,
coming home.
