Jacqueline's reflection

By

She settles on my hip, holding tight, routine.
I put on my new glasses and she looks,
then looks again. Legs bouncing
and arms flapping, she squeals
her deep delight. She sees my eyes, yes,
and the love, but that's not new.
It's the reflection, the tiny baby,
that's set her bopping.
She doesn't seem to know it's her own
self she sees, generating such joy.
She simply views another human,
newcomer to her world, worthy
of this greeting of giggles and quivers.
