The 1999 NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) season kicked off on Feb. 14 with the Daytona 500 in Florida. Jeff Gordon, who brought home three of the past four Winston Cup championships, beat Dale Earnhardt, last year's Daytona 500 winner. The season, consisting of 34 races, lasts until Nov. 21.
