Summer boy

Young boy dreams away the summer lying on his back

in a vast field

of timothy grass. A few late bluebonnets echo the color of his eyes.

Slowly he chews sweet juicy blades and watches

a herd of mustangs

sweep across the Texas sky,

sheep and cows parade

in a pasture of clouds - and he is as close to freedom as he will ever be.
