Sharon says Beirut massacre was a mistake and he 'paid'
The massacre of hundreds of Palestinians in Beirut was a ''mistake'' and ''I paid the price for it,'' former Israeli Defense Minister Ariel Sharon testified Tuesday in his $50 million libel suit against Time Inc.
General Sharon, the first witness at the trial in federal court in Manhattan, charges Time magazine libeled him in its report on the findings of an Israeli investigation into the 1982 massacre at two refugee camps after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
