Mr. McEnroe, in his fifth consecutive appearance in the Wimbleton final, became the first American to win the title back-to-back since Don Budge in 1937-38.

On Saturday, Martina Navratilova defeated Chris Evert Lloyd, 7-6, 6-2 to capture the women's single finals. It was Ms. Navratilova's third Wimbledon win in a row. She later teamed with Pam Shriver for a fourth straight women's doubles crown, defeating Kathy Jordan and Anne Smith 6-3, 6-4.
