Poles vault from Olympics

Poland joined the Soviet lead in pulling out of the Los Angeles Olympics Thursday, stressing that the decision was unpleasant and a disappointment for Polish athletes and fans and Poles in the West. The decision was announced by the national Olympic committee.

Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Laos, Mongolia, and Vietnam had also announced they would not attend the games.
