April unemployment rate holds steady at 7.8%

The unemployment rate in April remained at 7.8 percent for the third consecutive month, as the number of new jobs virtually accommodated a heavy springtime demand for work, the government said Friday.

Not since September-November 1980 has unemployment held steady for three months running.
