Soviet cosmonauts help fight forest fire in Burma

The joint Soviet-Indian mission orbiting the earth aboard the Salyut-7 space station helped combat a forest fire in Burma by transmitting details of its extent visible only from space, officials in Moscow said Sunday.

The cosmonauts, who are carrying out extensive photography of the Indian subcontinent to help chart inaccessible regions and locate undiscovered mineral resources, reported that the fire was raging over an area of about 30 square miles.
