Senate kills two attempts to change natural gas law

The Senate Tuesday voted to oppose two vastly different measures on natural gas, one to lift federal price regulations and the other to extend controls and roll back prices. Decisive opposition to both measures reflected the difficulty Congress has in finding a consensus on the complex gas issue.

Congress has been working on gas legislation since early this year, but remains sharply divided over the approach to take in revising current law.
