Scholarships for aspiring programmers and writers

Here's a scholarship program with a twist - the opportunity to win a free personal computer (worth over $3,000), along with scholarship money. NCR Corporation will award about 100 graduating high school seniors in the United States (one male and one female from each state) an NCR personal computer , plus a $750 cash scholarship for each year of college.

The program, which is open to seniors at any accredited school, was established in conjunction with the company's 100th anniversary celebrations next year.

Winners will be selected based on academic merit, including performance, potential, goals, and personal characteristics.

Michigan's Interlochen Arts Academy is offering scholarships and other prizes to aspiring poets and short-story writers who are high school students.

The funds will be awarded as part of the academy-sponsored National Youth Writing Competition. First prize is $100, second prize $50, and third prize $25. Winning entries are also published in The Interlochen Review. Deadline for entries is Dec. 1.
