To some groups, the domestic content bill is all wet. The International Longshoremen's Association is unhappy about efforts to pass a domestic content bill that would require more US-made parts in imported autos and trucks sold in this country. East Coast shipping firms, the ILA, and port authorities warn that because of its impact on international trade, such a law would cost thousands of jobs dockside. One port spokesman says the bill ''would do nothing more than add jobs in Detroit at the expense of jobs along the waterfront.''
The UAW says jobs lost along the docks ''would be minor compared with the number of auto workers who would return to jobs.''m
