Go slow, comrade. That seems to have been the message conveyed by Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang during his visit to Zimbabwe this week. Diplomatic sources say China has recently been cautioning Zimbabwe about trying to achieve its ''new social order'' too fast, and scaring off the country's whites. Premier Zhao seemed to underscore that message on the final day of his trip with a visit to a prosperous white farm north of Harare.

China and Zimbabwe focused mainly on economic and security matters. A ''technical and economic cooperation'' agreement was signed.m
