Sen. Jackson says Israel violated US weapons law

Israel technically violated the law barring offensive use of American-supplied weapons during its invasion of Lebanon, said Sen. Henry Jackson (D) of Washington, long a leading Congressional supporter of Israel.

The senator, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said on CBS News' ''Face the Nation'' Israel did not consult the United States before launching its June 6 attack. Jackson said Israel recently made some ''serious mistakes'' adversely affecting its relations with the US and the West. But he added Israel has been making its own policy because the Reagan administration did not have one of its own.
