Loyalty of clergy, guards questioned by Khomeini

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, questioning the loyalty of both his fellow Muslim clergymen and the country's security forces, warned the Iranian parliament it is a target for the regime's well-armed opposition.

In an address to the central council of the ruling Islamic Republican Party, Ayatollah Khomeini claimed the superpowers were behind the wave of attacks on Iran's leadership and were planting agents in the clergy and in the country's security forces.

He also said he will go into seclusion for two weeks, starting Saturday. No reason ws given for his sudden move, though he has in the past gone into seclusion to show his displeasure or to rest after a hectic schedule.
