Liberian officials arrested in alleged overthrow plot

Liberia's deputy head of state, Thomas weh Syen, and other members of the government were arrested on charges of plotting to overthrow the government and were to stand trial Monday, Head of State Samuel Doe announced. The deputy allegedly led an attempt to assassinate Commander in Chief Doe and other leading members of the government in the fourth coup pl ot since Mr. Doe seized power in April 1980.
