Hostages held by rebels in The Gambia are freed

All hostages held by Gambian rebels at a military barracks were freed unharmed by Senegalese forces, Senegalese military sources said. At least three British commandos from the crack Special Air Services Regiment were sent to The Gambia to help government forces put down the leftist coup, and two of them were believed to have participated in the Senegalese rescue in which the wife of the Gambian President and four of his children were also freed, defense sources in London said.
