El Salvador junta rejects OAS mediation

San Salvador, El Salvador

El Salvador's ruling military junta Wenesday rejected suggetions that the Organization of American States (OAS) mediate in the country's civil strife which in the past 14 months has claimed about 15,000 lives. The junta has in the past called for a face-to-face dialogue with leftist opposition to search for a peaceful settlement of El Salvador's problems. It has promised to hold elections next year.
