Help-wanted ads sagging

In March the help-wanted advertising index fell to its lowest level since May 1978, the Conference Board reports. The seasonally adjusted index stands at 145 (1967 equals 100), down 6 points from February's reading and 22 points below the 1979 peak of 167.

The index measures the volume of classified advertising in 51 major newspapers across the nation.
