Countries in the Middle East where the 'winds of change' are blowing

Those who said that 'winds of change' were blowing through the Middle East were right. The past two months have seen a series of stunning political shifts across the region and are now reverberating along the North African coast, through the Gulf, and up into the Levant. Here is a look at where those 'winds of change' are taking us.

Algeria

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is vying to placate his people after a weekend of unrest in the wake of the fall of Mubarak. At least hundreds, perhaps thousands, turned out Feb. 12 in the central square of Algiers, Algeria's capital, to call for President Bouteflika's ouster. They were met by thousands of police who stopped the planned march from happening. On Feb. 13, hundreds of protesters outside the capital clashed with police. In response, Bouteflika has promised to lift the country's state of emergency, which has been in place for two decades, Al Jazeera reported.
