For: Paul Levy, Emanuel’s real estate broker, testified Emanuel always intended to return to Chicago and his current house renters knew the lease would not be long. Mr. Levy said Emanuel told him he intended to return from Washington after two years.

Against: Emanuel’s decision to return was late in the game, say his opponents. The proof is in the lease extension they say he gave his renters in August that runs through June 2011.
