Mail clerk Jack Jones is one of a handful who are flying from Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport to Long Beach Saturday for just $4 each way, in a special promotion provided by JetBlue.

"We're helping Angelenos get over the gridlock altogether and enjoy the valley or the beach ... without having to brave the traffic jams to get there," said JetBlue marketing manager Mark Rogers, in a statement.

“My cousin told me about it,” says Mr. Jones. “I went online immediately and bought a seat. I’m thrilled – this is my kind of price.” He told several of his friends, he says, who logged on only to find the flights sold out.

“I don’t really know how I’m going to get to Burbank airport, or what I’m gonna do in Long Beach for the afternoon, but I’ll figure something out,” he says. Jones says he is taking the first of two, 35-minute flights down, about 12:30 pm, and taking the last flight back, around 8 pm.

“I hope this succeeds so much they do it all the time.” Jones says.

The “Carmageddon” special offer was promoted with the slogan: "405 Freeway Closure? We're So Over It!"
