The date of the last episode of the Comedy Central show “The Colbert Report” has been announced.

The last installment of the program starring Stephen Colbert will air on Dec. 18. The show debuted in 2005 following Colbert's stint as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” On “Colbert,” the host presents himself as a right-wing pundit and comments on the day’s events.

Colbert will be taking over for David Letterman on CBS’s “Late Show” sometime in 2015. According to The Wrap, some believe he will debut in fall 2015. He said in a statement that he will not be hosting “Late Show” as his “Colbert” character.

“So we’ll all get to find out how much of him was me,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”

In a statement, Letterman said of Colbert taking over, “Stephen has always been a real friend to me. I’m very excited for him, and I’m flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses.”

CBS host Craig Ferguson, who helms the “Late Late Show” program, is airing his last show on Dec. 19, according to TV Guide. New “Late Late Show” host James Corden will debut in March.

However, before he moves over to CBS, Colbert still has an election to discuss. According to Deadline, “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show” will air live episodes on Nov. 4. The “Daily Show” episode will be titled “Democalypse 2014: America Remembers It Forgot To Vote,” while the “Colbert” installment will be named “Midterms ‘014: Detour To Gridlock: An Exciting Thing That I Am Totally Interested In – Wait!
