If you have a particular concern, this is the time to express it.

Officially, “TSA officers are trained to communicate and work with each individual traveler throughout the process to ensure a respectful screening process and to make sure the traveler understands each step of the process, while providing the best possible security for everyone,” says Ms. Horowitz.

Unofficially, anecdotes indicate that the officers will tell you, step by step, what they are about to do, and where they will put their hands.

And yes, all TSA officers trained to administer the enhanced pat-downs have also received them.
