One wouldn’t want to actually experience the misfortunes that befall the Baudelaire orphans or Lemony Snicket’s other characters. But readers will soon be able to get the thrill of opening a book and seeing themselves in the narrative.
Snicket (also known as writer Daniel Handler) is working with the group Put Me In The Story to create personalized versions of his children’s series “All the Wrong Questions.” The fourth book in the series, “Why Is This Night Different from All Other Nights?,” is being released this September and all four books will be released through Put Me In The Story then.
“Put Me In The Story has a worldwide reputation for making children happy through the gift of personalized literature,” Snicket said in a statement. “Lemony Snicket books, on the other hand, have a worldwide reputation for being unhappy, mysterious, and deeply impersonal. For some inexplicable reason, a partnership has developed, and personalized versions of my books will be offered to unsuspecting young people. I shudder to think of what will happen to readers as a result, and humbly suggest that the name of the program be changed to Please, I Beg Of You, Take Me Out Of This Story.”
Snicket himself was the narrator of the “Series of Unfortunate Events” books and also offered dark hints that he was connected with the books’ events. The “All the Wrong Questions” series focuses on Snicket as a young person.
