Uzodinma Iweala’s novel “Beasts of No Nation” is reportedly being adapted into a movie by Cary Fukunaga of “True Detective” with actor Idris Elba on board to star.

“Beasts of No Nation” was published in 2005 and follows an African boy named Agu who becomes a child soldier. Barnes & Noble called the book “a horrifying portrait of war” and wrote that “Agu’s narration casts a harrowing spell.”

Now Fukunaga, director of the acclaimed HBO series “True Detective,” is on board to direct, according to IndieWire, and “Luther” actor Idris Elba is said to be starring as the commander of Agu’s military group.

A release date has not yet been set.
