Ophthalmologist Rand Paul defeated Democrat Jack Conway for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Jim Bunning. Dr. Paul has held no former political office. He is the son of Texas Congressman Ron Paul and a major figure in the tea party movement. He received media attention when Mr. Conway ran a TV ad focusing on Paul's alleged involvement with an anti-Christian group in college and his alleged participation in a college prank that forced a woman to worship an “Aqua Buddha.”
