5. South Carolina governor

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin waves to supporters after endorsing South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley (l.) during a campaign rally at The Statehouse in Columbia May 14.

One of the most successful of Palin’s “mama grizzlies,” Nikki Haley won the South Carolina gubernatorial primary in a runoff election in June, beating out three opponents and overcoming allegations of an extramarital affair.

Palin was effusive in her support for Haley, holding a rally with her at the South Carolina state house, and repeatedly coming to her defense, particularly when Haley was accused of having an affair.

“South Carolina friends, don’t let ‘em just make things up,” she told her Facebook followers in a long post denouncing the charges and defending Haley May 24.
